Alameda Health System (AHS) stands as a cornerstone of public health care in the region, encompassing five hospitals and four wellness centers, with over 800 beds and a network of 1,000 dedicated physicians. Founded in 1864, as the Alameda County Infirmary, AHS has built a rich legacy of service, innovation, and community commitment.
Through the decades, AHS has been aa pioneer in healthcare. In the 1920s, Fairmont Hospital became the first public rehabilitation facility in the Western U.S. By 1927, Highland Hospital had established a groundbreaking nursing school. In the 1960s, AHS introduced a network of neighborhood-based clinics, setting new standards for preventive and wellness care.
The formation of John George Psychiatric Hospital in 1992 marked a milestone, consolidating AHS into a unified system. Today, with over 4,500 employees, AHS is dedicated to delivering equitable, high-quality health care. Recent expansions include the addition of San Leandro and Alameda hospitals, further solidifying AHS’s role as a leader in public health.

The Position
Chief Medical Officer
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the senior medical leader and strategic visionary for Alameda Health System (AHS). As both a physician executive and clinical strategist, the CMO champions AHS’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient care and clinical excellence.
Collaborating closely with clinical chiefs, department chairs, the President of the Medical Staff, and other medical leaders, the CMO ensures seamless alignment between clinical priorities and operational goals. This role also partners with senior hospital and ambulatory service executives to drive innovation and enhance care delivery across AHS’s network.
The CMO acts as a trusted advocate for the medical staff, guiding their roles and responsibilities while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability. Additionally, the CMO represents AHS with key internal and external stakeholders, serving as a dynamic voice for the organization’s mission of advancing health equity and excellence in care.

Compensation
For the selected candidate, a complete and competitive compensation package will be offered which includes salary (annual salary range $481,080 - $801,800), major insurances, PTO, retirement, and relocation reimbursement.
