Position Overview The Illinois State Police (ISP) Forensic Sciences Command (FSC) is seeking a motivated individual to fill a Forensic Science Administrator II position at the Rockford Forensic Science Laboratory under the Division of Forensic Science. The ISP FSC is the third largest forensic science laboratory system in the world, and the Rockford Forensic Science Laboratory is one of seven laboratory facilities in the state. This individual will directly supervise a staff of approximately eight individuals in the assigned forensic science sections and two evidence technicians. This leader will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of quality for the analytical procedures being conducted. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a work history of leadership and be a critical thinker. This position will work cooperatively with various laboratory staff members and officials in the criminal justice system. Essential Functions Functions as an assistant laboratory director of the Rockford Forensic Science Laboratory and performs supervisory duties as the direct supervisor of assigned sections. Administers the laboratory's Quality Assurance (QA) program. Responsible for the analysis of casework and the administration of the assigned sections. Administers facility maintenance programs and orders equipment for the laboratory. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope and duties enumerated above. Attends professional meetings and seminars in management or forensic science. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in a natural or forensic science, preferably supplemented by a master's degree in one of the biological, natural, physical or forensic sciences, or related discipline. Requires three years of professional forensic science work experience such as would be gained at the advanced caseworker level. Conditions of Employment Successful completion of initial and ongoing, random, alcohol and drug screens. Successful completion of a background investigation. Successful completion of a polygraph examination. Ability to maintain credibility in providing courtroom testimony. Ability to adhere to Illinois State Police’s ethical standards. Ability to adhere to Illinois State Police’s policies and procedures. Ability to travel on an as-needed basis. Ability to maintain proficiency in forensic science casework on an as-needed basis.
