Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Government Relations team with a new opportunity for a Government Relations Specialist. This position will provide professional support to senior staff in the government relations division by being knowledgeable about government policies affecting the company's business areas and able to interpret government affairs in light of the company's operations.

Compensation
$80,720 - $96,000
Exempt Grade 16

The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
What you'll do
* Regulatory Affairs - conduct research and analysis on state and federal health regulatory issues and produce written communication to advance public policy goals, including testimony, slide decks, fact sheets, talking points, research summaries, etc., as directed. Assist in advocacy with state and federal elected officials and agency staff.
* Policymaker engagement - assist with policymaker engagement by preparing supporting materials for and attending meetings and events with policymakers.
* Internal Collaboration - serve as an internal subject matter expert on current proposed and enacted legislation and regulations and assist internal staff in understanding any impacts to the company and its members.
* Document Preparation - Organize and prepare complex documents using a variety of applications, such as standard office software. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing information for special reports.
* Assist with various events and participate in programs to build support for the company's policy positions.
* Prepare materials for meetings and other events involving government representatives.
* Respond to inquiries from government representatives in accordance with the company's confidentiality standards.
* Monitor, analyze, and interpret the existing and proposed legislation and regulations, as well as its impact on the company's activities. May interface directly with government officials.
What you need
* Bachelor's degree in political science, communications, journalism, public health, economics, pre-law or relevant program.
* Two years of related experience, or one year of related experience if the candidate has a Master's Degree or JD.
* Current knowledge and/or ability to learn state and federal legislative and regulatory processes and track the status of proposed laws.
* Ability to conduct research and analyze data.
* Use clear and effective verbal communication skills.
Bonus if you have
* Master's degree or Juris Doctorate (JD) is preferred.
