What You Will Do

You will join the Radiation Protection Development Scrum Team within the Application and Data Services Division (ADS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining applications for the Radiation Protection Division. We are responsible for managing a large and complex portfolio of applications.


We are looking for self-motivated, experienced Oracle APEX Developers with a proven track record of developing and maintaining complex Oracle APEX applications to join our team-focused, fast-paced and dynamic environment.


This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.




Software Developer 2 ($83,900 - $136,000)


An experienced professional in developing and maintaining Oracle APEX applications. Works collaboratively as part of a team to meet the business needs of customers. Demonstrates a strong desire to learn new technologies, to become efficient in their field, and the willingness and confidence to develop safety-class, mission-critical software.


Software Developer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)


A seasoned professional with broad expertise or unique knowledge in developing and maintaining Oracle APEX applications. Works with customers, product owners and end users to understand business needs. Works collaboratively as part of a team, providing leadership and mentorship for others, empowering team members. Fosters strong relationships with customers, peers and service providers. Identifies and addresses productivity impediments and promotes work process improvements.

What You Need


Minimum Job Requirements:


Technical Expertise

  • Experience in developing and maintaining Oracle APEX applications using Oracle APEX version 5 or newer. This should include complex applications requiring extensive use of most built-in features.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining PL/SQL packages. This should include the ability to write code which is maintainable and reusable while adhering to established best practices and coding standards.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining Oracle database schema objects, such as tables with efficient indexing and proper constraints.

Collaborative Work

  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, preferably within an agile framework, to develop and maintain customer software applications as well as develop innovative and effective solutions to highly complex problems and production work requirements. This includes participation in team communications and activities, providing meaningful contributions which improve overall team performance and the expertise.
  • Effective communication with customers to establish and build trust is essential.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

  • Experience using RESTful services, JSON, JavaScript (including AJAX and jQuery) and Oracle built-in procedures and functions (such as UTL_
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and the Document Object Model (DOM)
  • Proficiency in Java, C#, C++

Education/Experience at Software Developer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Education/Experience at Software Developer 3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:


While not required, the ideal candidate will have experience in some or all of the following:

  • Experience with APEX Office Print
  • Experience with Oracle Forms and Reports, especially experience converting to APEX
  • Experience in Fortran
  • Experience working within the nuclear industry or a related field which involves dosimetry monitoring and reporting

Work Environment:


Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.


Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.


*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.


New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.


Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.


Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
