Goal of our Sheltered Hearts Program Our goal is to provide safe and timely reunification for a child and their family or suitable sponsor.
In partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Sheltered Hearts Program provides family reunification and short-term shelter for children who have entered the United States without a guardian. Children reside in our family-style cottage located on our 2,000-acre campus while our bilingual staff provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Job Responsibilities - Act under the direction of the Administrator on Duty who oversees security.
- Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
- Respond to alarms, and address any safety concerns.
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.
- Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
- Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Monitors campus for safety and security including but not limited to staff and building checks, and addresses any security breaches. Documents and reports breaches and response taken. Monitors and assesses youth transitions including to cottage, school and dining hall.
- Identifies and communicates areas of risk including but not limited to transition of youth, ratios, restraints, safety plans and injuries. Consults with management regarding risk reporting protocols, safety planning, follow up plans, and reducing future risk and program outcomes data.
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision and values including participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
- Controls access to client site or facility through the admittance process
- Patrols assigned site on foot or in vehicle; checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked entrances and exits, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons.
- Prepares logs and reports as required.
- This position will comply will all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those or ORR, ICE and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services
Job Requirements - High school diploma or GED required (some college is a plus).
- Experienced in childcare, law enforcement, or security work (1 year preferred).
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred but not required)
- Varicella Vaccine required OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from a healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
- MMR (Measles Mumps & Rubella vaccine required OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases.
- Tdap (Tetanus-diptheria-pertussis) vaccine required.
- Influenza vaccine required, one dose annually during flu season.
- Physical (Medical Exam) required.
- Must be able to work 9AM-5PM during new hire orientation to complete TCI(Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), CPR and Sanctuary training. Must maintain TCI and CPR certification.
- Required to be 21 years or older.
- Must have a current and valid driver's license with acceptable driving history to the Agency.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends as necessary. On-call hours are required.
- Ability to work with economically and culturally diverse population.
Schedule Wednesday - Saturday: 11 PM - 9 AM.
