General Summary:

  Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners guide patients on their journey to mental wellness. They screen patients for physical illness and analyze explanations for psychiatric illness, such as developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma or social or cultural problems. Assessment of risk factors for mental illness and broader wellness evaluations are part of the job as well. Diagnoses certain diseases and provides appropriate treatment to include prescribing select medications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 · Conduct thorough medication evaluations and manage medication regimens for children and adults.

· Track patient progress and report their results to doctors, psychiatrists, and psychologists to evaluate or change treatment plans.

· Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

· Provide education and support to patients and families regarding medication management and mental health treatment.

· Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance clinical skills and stay current with best practices.

· Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies.

· Counsels and educates patients on health behaviors, self-care skills, and treatment options.

· Provides services including but not limited to screening, testing, diagnosis, and treatment at the health center or offsite, including offsite programs or events and whether in-person or through telehealth.

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 · Knowledge of medicine, nutrition, wellness and health education.

· Knowledge of professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care.

· Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

· Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care.

· Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and psychiatry.

· Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.

· Ability to work with diverse patient populations.

· Proficiency in ICD-10 coding and medical terminology.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.

Qualifications:

· Successful completion of an accredited school of nursing for Registered Nursing and graduate-level Nurse Practitioner Program (Master’s or Doctorate degree).

· Board certified PMHNP

· Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse in the state of Georgia.

· Experience in a clinical setting with a focus on medication management and psychiatric care.

· Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.

· Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate.

· Remaining awake and alert while on duty for 8 or more hours per shift.

  Typical Working Conditions:

 · Frequent contact with staff, patients, and the public.

· Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in a normal office environment.
