Position Title Research Specialist, Conservation Genetics

Posting Context Statement The Research Specialist helps to conduct research that directly impacts the management and conservation of wildlife populations. The Conservation Genetics Research Associate assists the Laboratory for Ecological, Evolutionary and Conservation Genetics research group by training new staff, students and visiting scientists in complex laboratory procedures, ensuring a safe and clean working environment and tracking laboratory supplies.
Position Overview Performs research activities and analysis, recording observations and measurements, and reports results. Participates in analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision.
Duties may include:
- Prepare standard solutions for calibration and analyses
- Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
- Collect laboratory or field data
- Conduct research and analysis of scientific data
- Participate in research design discussions
- Perform literature reviews
- Prepare reports
- Compare data and historical records for trend verification
- Develop reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research data
- Assist with site inspections and field oversight
- Have little or no supervisory responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned

Required Education - Bachelor's degree in Wildlife, Biology, or Molecular Biology
Required Other Additional Preferred - One or more years experience working in a molecular genetics laboratory
- Experience extracting DNA from low quantity DNA sources including feces, hair and environmental samples
- Experience with PCR and qPCR set up
- Experience working under biosafety hood in biosafety level II laboratory
- Experience in training new staff in laboratory protocols
- Experience with DNA library preparation for RADseq, GTseq or other methods
- Ability to work independently and in a group environment
- Demonstrated record keeping skills in a laboratory environment
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions - Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 40 pounds
Degree Requirement Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire
